Recreation Classes

Are you interested in crafts, dance or martial arts? We have weekly classes and drop-in programs to benefit your lifestyle. From preschool to high school, adults to seniors, we offer services to all age groups and ability levels to help you explore your creative and athletic side. Abs and Core
Come and work out your core. This workout will include your back, side, pelvic, and buttock muscles. During this workout these exercises will help improve performance and will increase strength and endurance.

Adult Ballet 
Each class will feature Ballet basics on barre portion, followed by a selected combination of European folk dance, Chinese folk dance, and/or other dance techniques.

Aztec Dance Class
Come and partake in the symbolism of Aztec Dance while setting foot into a culturally rich, magical world. While we try to have class every Wednesday, this class is taught by members of the community that are donating their time and last minute cancellations may occur. 

Ballet Class
Lots of imagination is used to help socialize students and ease them into pre-school and kindergarten. The basic steps are woven into magical stories using mime, tambourines, star wands, scarves and many different music pieces to train their listening skills, which augment their math skills. This class will teach arm coordination and balance movements while they participate in creative dance and imagination mime stories.

Capoeira Class
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial arts of African origin that incorporates acrobatics, dance, and music. Capoeira activates the minds and bodies of its practitioners. Students attain a sense of rhythm and coordination as well as strength and flexibility through the dynamic movements and music.

Chinese Folk Dance 
Come and join this class and learn about the Chinese culture and folk dance. Chinese Folk Dance is an excellent way to exercise and stay in good health.     

Circuit Training 
Circuit training is a form of body conditioning, endurance training and resistance training using
high-intensity. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program.

Cooking Matters Classes: 
Learn how to prepare fast, delicious and healthy meals on a budget! Practice skills like:Preparing healthy and delicious recipes quickly, Buying fruits and vegetables on a budget, Comparing prices to find bargains, Reading and comparing food labels,Planning affordable meals and sticking to your budget! In each class you will cook and eat a healthy meal.

CPR Classes: 
The First Aid course is designed to provide rescuers ages 13+ the fundamental skills to recognize and treat medical emergencies.This course will teach students scene safety, the signs and symptoms of diabetes, stroke, and seizures and how to best treat these emergencies. Students will also learn how to control bleeding, treat for shock and burns, and minimize spinal damage due to head and spine injuries. In addition, students will get hands-on practice in dealing with blood borne pathogen safety, controlling bleeding, and dealing with broken bones and sprains.

Gardening Workshop
Put your green thumb to work by joining the gardening club as they plant, harvest, and upkeep San Pablo's Community Garden at Wanlass Park (intersection of Rivers & 21st Street) and at Davis Park (1667 Folsom Avenue). Participants will not only learn how to grow plants, but can also take home fresh produce (when available).

Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga is slow, safe, alignment based physical exercise, developing a balance of strength and flexibility in your body and mind, to release any tension, and improving your posture.

Hip Hop Dance Class
This class will focus on building and expanding on Hip-Hop movements. Students will learn level-appropriate dance combinations to today's popular music.

Karate Class
Students learn practical self-defense through the Okinawa style of Uechi Ryu while improving control of their bodies, thought, and emotions.

Magic: The Art of Deception 
This is a hands on magic course using everyday objects! The class will also teach life skills, such as public speaking and developing confidence, ending in a class performance.

Swimming Classes:
Swim lessons for Mommy/Daddy and Me. For toddlers ages 6 months- 5 years old at the Contra Costa College Swimming Pool. 

Tap Class
This class in an introduction to the basic steps and rhythms of tap dance using age appropriate music and songs. This helps enhance their listening and translation skills and the ability to move at speed safely.

Classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography. Helps develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives by making fitness fun.

Zumba Gold
Active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination.
