General Traffic Enforcement

Traffic enforcement is also conducted on a routine basis by officers assigned to the Patrol Division. They may be directed to various locations throughout the city in response to citizen concerns, increased collisions or other traffic-related issues.

The Police Department has identified the following top three traffic violations and/or primary causes for collisions within the city:

22350 VC Speeding. No person shall drive a vehicle upon a roadway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.

23152(a) VC Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.

​ 22107 VC Unsafe Turning Movements No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety. Officers use both hand-held and fix-mounted radar lasers to monitor speed violators.
