The San Pablo Police Department is seeking young men and women who are 14 years of age that have completed the eighth grade, or who are 15 to 20 years old, to participate in our Police Explorer Program. This is a great opportunity for young adults who are interested in the unique and dynamic career of law enforcement. Explorers are exposed to the day-to-day operations of the San Pablo Police Department, which includes Patrol, Investigations and the Services Divisions. The Explorer Program has a strong emphasis on five learning domains: Career Building, Service Learning, Leadership Experience, Life Skills and Character Education. This is not a paid position; however, uniforms and equipment will be provided to successful candidates.
The San Pablo Police Cadet Program creates a bridge for community youth (18-24 years old), by offering them an opportunity to work in an "apprenticeship" position; thus allowing them to prepare for a law enforcement career. Cadets are paid part-time employees with college enrollment and educational performance requirements. The duties of the Police Cadet position are specifically designed to help them learn aspects of law enforcement. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: perform clerical duties, maintain records, and enter information into computer systems, answer telephones, process information and reports, effectively communicate orally and in writing, learn to interpret and apply City law enforcement policies and procedures including; Police Department policy manual, and related state and federal laws, assist with evidence processing and storage, parking enforcement, D.U.I. checkpoints, participate in the Department’s Ride-Along program and perform related duties as assigned
