Candidate Information
The Clerk's Office is responsible for the conduct of municipal elections. We provide nomination packets and general guidelines to candidates interested in running for City Council, Treasurer, and City Clerk. This web page is updated in March of even-numbered years. Below is information regarding the current or most recent election.
The candidate nomination period is determined by Election Code and begins 113 days prior to the election date. If any incumbent does not file by the deadline, the nomination period will be extended.
Nomination Period
The candidate nomination period for the November 5, 2024 General Municipal Election is opens from July 15, 2024 to August 8, 2024. Call the Assistant City Clerk at 510-215-3000 or email Leticia I. Miguel to schedule an appointment to obtain nomination papers during the nomination period.
Extended Nomination Period (if one or more incumbent does not file)
The candidate nomination period will be extended five days – until Wednesday, August 14, 2024, for any office for which an eligible incumbent does not file nomination papers.
Candidate Nomination Packet
Candidates must wait until the nomination period begins to obtain a nomination packet from the Assistant City Clerk. Forms include, but are not limited to, the Nomination Paper, Ballot Designation Worksheet, Candidate Statement (optional), Code of Fair Campaign Practices (optional), Statement of Economic Interests Form 700, and Campaign Finance Disclosure statements. The Assistant City Clerk is a candidate's primary source of information during the nomination and election process.
